Profile

Off Broadway was the perfect place for a scrappy salsa-hip-hop musical about Washington Heights to gestate; Jeremy McCarter loved Lin-Manuel Miranda's “rich and kaleidoscopic” score and clever lyrics. But Broadway is where the innovative new musical fully expands—thanks not only to a space big enough for augmented cast, sound, and choreography, but the addition of four new songs to a previously skimpy second act. Between this and Passing Strange, trumpeters of the Decline of the Broadway Musical have nothing to complain about this season.

This show has it all!! Great music, touching story and incredible cast. It's young, fresh and feels good. Simple, sweet and touching. No gimmicks - just pure entertainment. Bravo.

WELL WORTH IT!!!!

I walked into the theater with very high expectations. Thankfully, I was not dismayed. This was truly one of the best musicals I have seen on Broadway (and I have seen many). I left the theater singing and dancing. This is Broadway at its best. The music was incredible; the cast was electrifying and the set design was the icing on the cake. No wonder they got the best new musical nod.

  • Finian’s Rainbow

This marvelous, slightly unhinged revival succeeds because it refuses to wink at the material or treat it as quaint.

  • The Understudy

Theresa Rebeck’s warm backstage comedy features a thoroughly excellent trio, but the heart of the show is Julie White’s performance.
