Ever wonder what Thornton Wilder’s long-misunderstood, often-cheesed-up meditation on life’s evanescence might be like with David Mamet as the Stage Manager? Maybe not, but star and director David Cromer, in the intimate confines of the Barrow Street Theatre, doses the role with just enough archness to give Our Town renewed potency in a cynical era, plumbing the play’s depths as never before.
