Just Married

Brittany Murphy and Ashton Kutcher play newlyweds in Shawn Levy’s gross-out romantic comedy about a honeymoon from hell. (1 hr. 35 mins.; PG-13) —BILGE EBIRI

Spotlight: Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher really does say dude a lot, as it turns out. "I've been dragged to so many romantic comedies—dude, it's hell for an hour and a half," says the 24-year-old. Having landed in Fox's That '70s Show on his first day in L.A., then made the smash Dude, Where's My Car?, Kutcher is—well, not branching out, exactly, but applying his trademark goofy humor to another genre. Just Married is a twisted love story about a newlywed couple's slapsticky European honeymoon, co-starring Kutcher's real-life squeeze, Brittany Murphy. "After Dude, I was getting offered buddy comedy after buddy comedy, but I already did that kind of movie," he says. "That's why I wanted to try this. But I still knew I had to make something guys would go see. Usually, you go to romantic comedies and you're like, That's not how it is, dude. There was no way I was making some mushy chick flick. Your girlfriend still might drag you to see it, but you'll be like, Oh, man, you made me laugh, dude."
