  Dennis Quaid stars as a pilot who decides to rebuild his cargo plane after it crashes with a crew—Giovanni Ribisi and Hugh Laurie among them—onboard.

  This scattershot drama focuses on the suicide of a young champion swimmer and the impact on his younger, less-perfect brother.
   
  Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (wide release)
  Liam Aiken and Emily Browning play two orphaned children beset on all sides by villainous types. Jim Carrey stars as the evil Count Olaf, a cruel and cunning guardian who’s after their money.
   
  Million Dollar Baby (limited release)
  Clint Eastwood directed and stars in this drama, in which a jaded boxer (Eastwood) is approached by a lonely young woman (Hilary Swank) who persuades him to take her on as his student.
   
  Open My Heart (limited release)
  Odd Italian feature about a girl being raised (and seduced) by her older sister.
   
  The Sea Inside (limited release)
  Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar’s drama is based on the real-life story of Ramón Sampedro, a paralyzed man who waged a passionate decades-long fight for the right to end his own life.
   
  Spanglish (wide release)
  Adam Sandler and Téa Leoni star in this clash-of-cultures comedy as an affluent couple living comfortably in Los Angeles until a hot Mexican woman (Paz Vega) moves in with her 12-year-old daughter.
   
  A Tale of Two Sisters (limited release)
  Kim Jee-Woon’s wonderfully creepy Korean horror flick follows two disturbed sisters who return home to the increasingly cruel stepmother who lives with their father in an apparently haunted house.
   
  Whore (limited release)
  Spanish actress turned director María Lidón’s drama, based on the best-selling novel by Isabel Pisano, blends fact and fiction in an effort to give a glimpse into the world of prostitution.
