NEW YORK VIEW
Director Ham Tran aims to make the definitive epic about refugees who escaped the wreckage of the Vietnam War and emigrate to the United States—and doesn't quite pull it off. The characters in this sprawling, 135-minute film, about one family's journey from war to suburbia, never quite come to life, but the filmmakers obviously mounted difficult logistical obstacles, and they have pulled off several powerful sequences.

CINEMASOURCE SYNOPSIS
April 30, 1975: the Fall of Saigon. American troops withdraw from Vietnam and the 21-year civil war is at an end. Four million Vietnamese are dead. Half a million South Vietnamese who fought with the Americans or worked in the government are sent to re-education camps. Close to two million Vietnamese flee by boat. Before they reach safety, thousands of them will die. From the jungles of Vietnam to the streets of Southern California, "Journey From the Fall" tells the untold story of what happened to millions of Vietnamese in the aftermath of the war.
