The Mayoral Elections

From: Patrick J. Shields
Sent to New York Metro: 9/20/01

Subject: Let the Pundits Talk

Regarding "The Man who would be Mayor", your online vote on whether to postpone elections, or change back from "term limits" to allow Giuliani to continue: This attack was as much, if not more, about election day, as it was an attack on capitalism. Term limits have already limited our right to choose, and perhaps the greatest tragedy of this horrible event, yes, even greater than the horrible loss of life, because of the safety for all of us it ultimately represents, is that democratic elections were prevented last week by an act of terrorism. Let's not make it worse by even considering a change. Getting back to the polls should be our first priority upon ceasing a rescue effort. It is, and always will be, how we best honor our dead soldiers.

WTC: Safety Concerns

From: Shelley Davis
Sent to New York Metro: 9/25/01

Yesterday I drove through the Lincoln Tunnel on my way back into Manhattan. I had several cardboard boxes filled with antiques and collectibles. I was expecting that these boxes would be searched and was worried about breakage. It was baffling and frightening to me that not only was my car not searched, but no one seemed the least bit interested in any of the cars or trucks going through the tunnel.

How quickly we have fallen back to sleep. I could have had dynamite or some kind of bomb in those boxes and poof..that would have been the end of the Lincoln Tunnel! Is American life that cheap? What happened to the heightened security? Are we asking for another disaster with our ho hum attitude? Is anyone else concerned about this bedsides me?

I am a retired airline employee, I worked for 30 years at Miami Intl. . If there is any one entity to blame for what happened on Tuesday, 11 Sep 2001, it is the FAA .The FAA made everyone in America BELIEVE that they were safe when they weren't. And they must have known it, but they didn't know what else to do. The security of the airports of this country should be under law enforcement officers such as immigration or customs officers. They should be civil servants and get salaries commensurate with their expertise. They should be taught how to study people and determine wether they look guilty or uncomfortable etc etc...

The FAA's primary job is to promote travel, it is not the agency that should be in charge of making travel harder. They, in cahoots with the airports' managers and airline management, who had to comply with the FAA if they wanted to operate, have conspired in making Americans feel safe when they really weren't. Trying to save money, they hired people at minimum wages, some of which could not even speak English.

They should be ashamed of themselves. It is time for the FAA to disappear in disgrace.

WTC: Points of View

Has anyone ever thought about the atrocities America has committed against people? Let's not forget that sometime not so long ago, America bombed a Sudanese pharmacy killing dozens, with no supported evidence that it was linked to Osama-bin Laden. If God is on the side of one, he has to be equally against the opposing party. America believes she is guided by the will of God and so does these people. How can we ascertain who is right?

It's amazing how many people rally around the concept of God when there is adversity. At some point America was bound to pay for its crimes against humanity. I think the only thing good that came out of this whole ordeal is the fact that other minorities now know that it could happen to them. Arabs in this country feel like they are one step closer to becoming the new American slaves; especially with this anit-arab sentiment going around. America will flip the script on whoever it will, at will.

Most people say they believe in God but dont know what it means to truly believe. What God are we believing in? Everyone talks about the oneness of God and how we all believe in the same God. Bull. The Koran opposes the bible, the Jews say Jesus is not the messiah, the Hindus say Vishnu's their God, along with a host of others. The Dahli Lama says that enlightenment is to know the oneness of God. Who can we believe? God has never audibly given anyone today a message of its existence. Everybody claims to know God, but have no formula of worship that they can say is the definitive word of God, and if so, that would mean someone else is wrong. The bible says that any other book after it- let be accursed, the Koran says Jesus is not God in the flesh, but rather an ordinary man. One refutes the other.

Wake up people and know for a surety which God you serve, your soul depends on it.

WTC Attack: Stories and Support
From: Kim
Sent to New York Metro: 10/7/2001

I have not lost a loved one in September 11, 2001 tragedy, but in my heart I feel sorrow for those that did. I used to think how bad things are for me and my family financially and emotionally, but those things seem so small compared to the people that are really hurting right now.

Today, I thank God for what I do have and I do not gripe too much about what I dont. I have my loved ones here. I feel so much sorrow for those that lost someone and I pray for them everyday, and they are always in my thoughts. I hope they find some sort of peace in our Lord, friends, and other family members, as well as the American people.

Kim from Indiana
