Because the Woman Who Has Everything Now Has a Man Who Will Park Her Stroller

“At full capacity, we probably have close to $100,000 worth of strollers under our control,” says stroller valet Bobby Young. “And we’ve never lost one.” Young, 41, lives in Ditmas Park, and he works as a proofreader and dog-walker. Lately, he’s been picking up part-time stroller work at Brookfield Place. During big events, Young and his partner set up a tent and try to round up the strollers as people come in with their kids. “I’m more of the guy who waves the flag on the street to try to get people to park, and my partner is the one that actually parks the stroller,” Young explains. Young got the job through a friend at an event company who recognized the benefit of parking what he calls the “Sherman tanks” outside. The company pays them $250 per five-hour shift, and while they don’t put out a tip jar, Young finds a lot of people give him cash anyway. “We don’t have a great system,” he says. “When they come to pick them up, we are like, ‘Which one is yours?’ And they’re like, ‘The big black one.’ ”
