Designers to Watch

Valedictorian
Benjamin Cho

The Look Intricate braiding; carefully hung asymmetrical ribbons. For his September 12 show, Cho plans to use "a lot of ladylike cocktail dress material, but not in that manner."

Where to Get It Not yet available in stores

Career Trajectory
Cho, 25, seems to be the one standout editors can agree on this season. The Parsons dropout has turned so many heads since he debuted his first collection in 1999 that Japanese cosmetic company Shiseido tapped him for its sponsorship program.

What You Don't Know It's not just Cho's inventive way with fabric that has fashionistas so impressed: Melissa de la Cruz of Hint notes, "[Benjamin] has a conscience. When he got a manufacturer, he made sure everything was not being produced in a sweatshop." What a guy!

What the Editors Say
New York, Amy Larocca: "What's great about Ben is that he's not only a precise cutter, he has these fantastical ideas."

Elle, Nina Garcia: "It's a very particular style. You can tell his things are his things, and that's very important."

Practicing what he preaches: No black-clad artiste, Cho dresses the funky part in a recent show.
