Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren and her old friend Elaine Lafferty, who was editor-in-chief of Ms. magazine for two years, are now in the restaurant business. The two are part-owners of the Old Mill Inn, a 144-seat seaside restaurant in Mattituck, L.I. Lafferty covered the O. J. Simpson trial for Time, which is how she met Van Susteren. Her latest gig includes living above the 1820s gristmill–cum–restaurant and hosting Van Susteren as guest bartender. “I was looking for something new, and Greta told me that I’d have as much fun here as I did dodging cluster bombs in Kosovo,” says Lafferty, who used to be a war correspondent for the Irish Times. Van Susteren’s 80-foot yacht, the SS Sophie, is making regular stops at the Mattituck marina. “Regretfully, I like food, peace, and tranquillity,” says Van Susteren. “I haven’t exactly chosen the right profession, but the restaurant is relaxing.” The owners are hopeful that their celebrity buddies will stop by. “We’re working on Kirstie Alley to bartend in August, à la Cheers,” says Lafferty. “Kirstie doesn’t know about this yet.”
