Artist Adrian Kondratowicz thinks biodegradable pink garbage bags can beautify the city and call attention to how much we throw away. “We see the pile of black bags and we just walk past them,” he said at a party to promote the bags. “This will make people consider their waste.” He’s selling the bags for $10 each (limited-edition pink bags with gold polka dots go for $20) and hoping residents and businesses will sponsor their buildings’ or blocks’ colored bags for an installation next month. “People can commission a bag in any color they like,” he said, “except for clear or blue—that’s for recycling—or red, which is for hazardous objects.”
