The idea originated with my business partner, Matthias Hollwich, who suggested building a website for architects to network. That was three years ago. Then the recession happened, and it seemed like the right time to return to the idea.
Other than begging to get into magazines and design blogs, there’s no forum for architects to get the word out about their work. Our site lets them show their projects, and visitors can click through—looking for the next sexy thing, or thinking, This is cool, I want to hire that architect.
It was a huge boost to our confidence when Rem Koolhaas joined. But we also hope Architizer is a way for young architects to keep in touch with alumni. I would love to see the guy who won all the prizes at my architecture school graduation. What’s he doing? Until he joins, I have no idea.
