James Naismith was Canadian by birth, but it wasn’t until recently that his native country had a shot at North American supremacy in the sport he invented. This year’s most sought-after college-basketball recruit is Andrew Wiggins, who was raised near Toronto. He’ll join fellow Canucks Kelly Olynyk and Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga), Nik Stauskas (Michigan), Brady Heslip (Baylor), and Anthony Bennett and Khem Birch (UNLV) on NCAA courts. Five Canadians have found spots on NBA rosters in the past two years. As Wiggins and his fellow countrymen gain top-flight experience, Canada may find itself with its own Dream Team, just in time for the 2016 Olympics.
