They Got Jokes

Six comedy shows to catch this week.

Andrew Dice Clay

AWFUL VJ: Definitively Ranking Every Music Video
Littlefield; 7/27 at 8 p.m.; 622 Degraw St., nr. Fourth Ave., Gowanus, Brooklyn; 718-855-3388
It may be just on the tail of the announcement of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards nominees, but this show is what actually determines the best of the best, definitively ranking every music video ever (that might take a while!). Audience participation is encouraged.

Kevin McDonald’s Kevin McDonald Show
Union Hall; 7/28 at 7:30 p.m.; 702 Union St., at Fifth Ave., Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-638-4400
The actor, writer, director, and co-founder of the comedy sketch group The Kids in the Hall hosts a throwback variety night with Wallace Shawn, musical guest Brad Roberts (Crash Test Dummies), and more TBA.

Maria Bamford
Playstation Theater; 7/30 at 8 p.m.; 1515 Broadway, at 44th St.; 212-930-1950
This Lady Dynamite represented for the fairer sex alongside Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and Brian Posehn in the Comedy Central series The Comedians of Comedy, and stole scenes in Netflix's Arrested Development reboot. Come for her unique brand of stand-up, which blends hilarity and darkness. Just like life.

Andrew Dice Clay
The Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk; 7/30 at 8 p.m.; 2113 W. 21st St., at the Boardwalk, Coney Island, Brooklyn
No topic is off-limits for the man, the myth, the legend (we hear he recently started riffing on Pokémon Go). Show up to see if he wears his signature leather in summer. And don’t forget to ask if he’s caught them all.

CICADAS: Bushwick Comedy Night
House of Yes; 8/3 at 8 p.m.; 2 Wyckoff Ave., at Jefferson St., Bushwick, Brooklyn; 646-838-4937
Free comedy thrives in Bushwick at this biweekly show hosted by trio of buds Jermaine Fowler, Josh Rabinowitz, and Kevin Barnett. Next Wednesday’s installment features Sean Donnelly, Josh Gondelman, Giulia Rozzi, Seaton Smith, and Ramy Youssef. Plus, surprises.

Hari Kondabolu
The Bell House; 8/3 and 8/4 at 7:30 p.m.; 149 7th St., nr. Second Ave., Gowanus, Brooklyn; 718-643-6510
Politics can be hilarious (often in the “so sad/absurd it’s funny” sort of way). The politically minded comedian and former writer for FX’s Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell riffs on it all when he performs in support of his new album Mainstream American Comic (sample track: “My Mom (Accent Not Included)”). This summer he teams up again with Bell for a new podcast Politically Re-Active.
