Weekend Agenda

Events to check out this weekend, January 23–25.

Rebecca Benson in Let the Right One In, at St. Ann's Warehouse.

1. Brrr, it's cold out there! Good thing the Dead Rabbit is celebrating National Irish Day on Sunday by giving away free Irish coffees! Along with live Irish seisiún music from 5 to 10 p.m. and a talk on the history of Irish coffee by master Dave Wondrich during intermission. Educate yourself!

2. Or maybe you'd rather keep warm by dancing? On Saturday, the gay zine and party Spank celebrates seven years with a raucous party at the Bell House.

3. While on Friday at the Treehouse Theater, dubious but hilarious talents show off their moves at Nationals: An Amateur Adult Dance Competition Comedy Show. Tickets are $5, but you get $3 off your drink at Pioneers Bar with your ticket. That's something to dance about!

4. For some not-so-comedic dancing, the exquisite Mariinsky Ballet performs Chopin: Dances for Piano at BAM.

5. And life is a cabaret when we delve deep into Cheyenne Jackson’s history at Café Carlyle in his show Eyes Wide Open, through Saturday. Or swing by 54 Below for the dynamic stylings of Christine Ebersole and her show, Big Noise From Winnetka.

6. But what about the kids? On Sunday, bring the little ones to Littlefield for the Brooklyn Japanese New Year Festival, with traditional dances, crafts, and food.

7. And at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, they're celebrating 45 years of Sesame Street with the "Somebody Come and Play” exhibit, featuring scripts, storyboards, lead sheets, designs, and scores from the archives. Come out and play!

8. Looking for a laugh? Brit comedian (and Daily Show alum) Dave Gorman takes us to school with his PowerPoint presentation at Subculture on Friday and Saturday, South African funnyman Trevor Noah hits the Gotham Comedy Club all weekend, and Louis C.K. reps NYC at MSG on Saturday. Brace yourselves.

9. While through Sunday at the Stone, composer and jazz pianist Vijay Iyer wraps up an intense and musically eclectic residency with unique shows nightly, featuring writer Teju Cole, trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, and much more.

10. See a film with live musical accompaniment when Wordless Music presents Beasts of the Southern Wild on Friday and Saturday at Symphony Space.

11. Or see the play adapted from the Swedish novel turned movie with the coming-of-age vampire story Let the Right One In at St. Ann’s Warehouse. Warning: You may feel more than you bargained for. Happy weekend!
