Weekend Agenda

Events to check out this weekend, March 30–April 2.

Danny DeVito, Mark Ruffalo, and Tony Shalhoub in Arthur Miller’s The Price.

1. It’s spring! Out come the flowers. Check your allergies and see some spectacular arrangements at Macy’s, where their annual flower show is in full effect.

2. And up at the New York Botanical Garden is the fifteenth annual Orchid Show, which this year pays homage to the many orchids of Thailand. On Friday and Saturday swing by for “Orchid Evenings,” ticketed events with DJs, cocktails, and the traditional dance routines of the Somapa Thai Dance Company. Fun with flowers!

3. It’s the last weekend for Inventing Downtown at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery, focusing on the artist-run galleries that changed New York’s art scene from 1952 to 1965.

4. And Martin Scorsese is at the Museum of the Moving Image. A retrospective of his work, that is. You can also see a selection of films restored and preserved by the Film Foundation, which he co-founded.

5. Saturday is April Fools' Day. There may or may not be a parade, but there's definitely an April Fools Comedy Show with Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

6. On Friday and Saturday at BAM, spoken-word artists collaborate with musicians, dancers, and hip-hop artists for Poetry 2017: Word. Sound. Power.

7. And the stars converge on BAM on Saturday to pay tribute to Bob Hurwitz of Nonesuch Records, with piano works by John Adams, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Randy Newman, and Steve Reich—performed by the composers themselves and others. The evening also includes performances by Kronos Quartet, k.d. lang, Mandy Patinkin, Stephin Merritt, and more.

8. See Danny DeVito upstage his fellow stellar actors in Arthur Miller's The Price on Broadway.

9.While John Leguizamo can only upstage himself in the illuminating one-man show Latin History for Morons. Show up and learn something.

10. It’s the last weekend for the Joffrey Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet at the David H. Koch Theater.

11. And over at Pier 94 through Sunday is The Photography Show presented by AIPAD, showcasing over 115 galleries from around the world and incorporating new media and film.

12. The Havana Film Festival celebrates Latin American Cinema through April 7, at various venues.

13. And close out the weekend with two of rock’s most powerful women, when Stevie Nicks shares a bill with Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders at the Prudential Center on Sunday. (The Pretenders play by themselves at Terminal 5 on Monday.) Happy weekend!
