Weekend Agenda

Events to check out this weekend, 7/29–7/31.

Ice-T performs this weekend at The Art of Rap festival.

1. Begin this weekend by asking "Do I like early rap geniuses?" If the answer is yes, hit up The Art of Rap festival at Coney Island on Friday, named after Ice-T's 2002 documentary and featuring T, Public Enemy, EPMD, Kurtis Blow, the Sugarhill Gang, and more.

2. On Saturday, alt-hip-hop mainstays Digable Planets and Camp Lo play a free BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! show at Prospect Park.

3. Swing by Baby's All Right on Sunday for FUNCTION, a festival dedicated to South Asian music in the U.S. and the U.K., kicking off with a screening of Vivek Bald's Mutiny, which examines the Asian Underground movement in English rock in the '90s. Followed by performances by Heems, Riz MC, DJ Rekha, and more.

4. It's the last weekend to catch Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's "Try to Altar Everything" exhibit at the Rubin Museum, exploring the ways that Hindu mythology and Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley have influenced the artist and her work.

5. Comedian Dave Hill is joined by Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits) and his band Dead Heavens on Friday at Union Pool.

6. Down at the beach on Saturday, Andrew Dice Clay riffs on anything and everything, even Pokémon Go.

7. And Maria Bamford of Netflix's Lady Dynamite lays it all out at the Playstation Theater in Times Square. For more comedy, check out our events roundup.

8. Daniel Radcliffe stars in Privacy at the Public Theater, a discussion of privacy in the age of smartphones. Watch at your own risk.

9. Technically, the subjects in the excellent Small Mouth Sounds aren't allowed smartphones at their spiritual retreat. Show up to find out if they can refrain. And happy weekend!
