Weekend Agenda

Events to check out this weekend, July 31–August 2.

Yelle.

1. This weekend kicks off Summer Streets, three consecutive Saturdays in August where seven miles of roadway are closed to vehicles. Pedestrians can go wild with a water slide, freestyle soccer, fitness classes, historical reenactors, and more. All free.

2. Also, it's hot. Let's strip down with the Skivvies, a show at Joe's Pub where Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley not only play stripped-down covers, but they do it in their underwear, with special guests like Michael Cerveris.

3. On Governors Island the Grammy-nominated wind quintet Imani Winds plays two free shows shows at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., as part of the Rites of Summer music festival.

4. Upstate, we go historical, at the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo Park, New York. Check the website for how to get there by bus from NYC.

5. Or stay closer and catch a free show. Celebrate Brooklyn! has us covered with rapper Big K.R.I.T and opener Angel Haze on Friday, and performance artist Taylor Mac on Saturday, covering musical history from Tin Pan Alley to disco and more, with a few burlesque dancers thrown in.

6. Take a trip on Friday to Long Island, when Nikon and Jones Beach have a pairing for the ages with Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson. They're calling it the End Times tour. We say, Hey, at least the end-times are by the beach.

7. Participate in a giant silent disco, headlined by Talib Kweli, with three other DJs. Rent your headphones for $5, and let the grooves take you where they may.

8. Or bop the night away at the Full Moon Fest, with good eats and music by artists including Soul Clap and French pop duo Yelle. We dare you not to dance.

9. Get the most out of the dwindling summer on Sunday, with the Secret Summer sustainable food and cocktail festival, an immersive event held at the Foundry in LIC, with live ragtime and a VIP oyster-and-Champagne lounge.

10. Or have your food with a side of laughter, at the inaugural Empire Biscuit Comedy Festival, running through Tuesday, with acts including Hasan Minhaj and Livia Scott. What a delicious way to end the weekend.
