Events to check out this weekend, November 27-29


Miley Cyrus   

1. Dance off that Thanksgiving meal on Friday when electronica DJ Paul van Dyk hits the laptop at Terminal 5. Over at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, it’s the “Masters of Ceremony” hip-hop concert, featuring KRS One, Ja Rule, the Lox, Rakim, and more.

2. Or watch other people dance. Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance is at the Lyric Theatre for a limited engagement, with Flatley himself performing in most shows.

3. On Friday, comedian Greg Proops defends his show title of “The Smartest Man in the World” at the Bell House.

4. And on Saturday, Miley Cyrus comes to town, performing at Terminal 5, with opener Dan Deacon.

5. On Sunday, They Might Be Giants are at Music Hall of Williamsburg, playing their new Dial-a-Song tunes and more.

6. And back at the Bell House, they’re celebrating bluegrass, festival style, beginning at 4 p.m. Twang the afternoon away!

7. At the Brooklyn Museum, Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, 1861–2008 explores the visual record of our favorite amusement park by the sea.

8. Or head to Coney Island itself. On Sunday at noon, you can even catch a magic show.

9. Up at the New York Botanical Garden, model trains will be on display at the annual Holiday Train Show. The replicas zoom through 150 re-created landmarks, with an added 3,000 square feet of exhibition space compared to last year’s event.

10. And at the Museum of the Moving Image, explore the evolution of cats on the Internet. Bring the kids at various times this weekend for a stop-motion animation class featuring cutouts of the feline friends.

11. Kick-start your holiday shopping at the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg, at Industry City this weekend. Also don’t forget to check out our Ultimate Gift Guide.

12. Or get some free entertainment with your holiday “alternative mall” shopping at the Rock n’ Shop at Williamsburg’s Paper Box venue. Pick out crafts, jewelry, and art; trim your beard; get a tattoo (actual things); or just chill and watch a comedy show at noon on Sunday. Don’t forget to RSVP here, and happy weekend!
