Events to catch this weekend, 8/3–8/6.

DJ Rekha will perform at a free show in Central Park this weekend.   

1. Kick off the weekend on Thursday with some excellent free musical events. Over at the South Street Seaport is the Glassnote Records anniversary show, with a lineup including snny, Baio, and headliner Robert DeLong.

2. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! at the Prospect Park Bandshell has 59-year-old banjo trailblazer Béla Fleck, with the Flecktones. With comedian, singer, and Broadway actress Nellie McKay.

3. Maybe just set up camp in Prospect Park. On Friday at the bandshell, the Oscar-nominated film Creed is screening, with a live score by the Wordless Music Orchestra.

4. On Saturday, Nels Cline, jazz guitarist and longtime member of Wilco, pulls from his 2016 album Lovers, with an opening set by folk revivalist Sam Amidon.

5. On Sunday, move uptown to Central Park’s SummerStage for Basement Bhangra 20th Anniversary featuring Anik Khan, Apache Indian, DJ Rekha, and more, beginning at 2 p.m. Get sweaty.

6. And that evening transfer to Tremont Park in the Bronx for a free SummerStage performance by hip-hop star Jadakiss, playing hits from his mid-aughts platinum stunner Kiss of Death.

7. Over at the Steven Kasher Gallery, Teju Cole’s show closes on August 11. The first U.S. solo exhibition of the acclaimed photographer, essayist, and novelist has two parts: Black Spot, 30 photographs incorporating prose, and Black Paper, a photographic response to Cole’s experiences following last November’s election.

8. And admission is free for Target First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum, this weekend with West Indian group caribBEING. Take a soca dance class, see film screenings and musical performances, and much more.

9. You probably don't need us to tell you that Lincoln Center is the place to be, first with the Mostly Mozart Festival and the free, amazing Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival. But there, we told you anyway. Visit this weekend for everything from a history of Bollywood on Thursday, to a screening of The Big Lebowski on the same night, to the fancy footwork of Chloe & Maud and violinist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson channeling hip-hop producer J Dilla on Friday.

10. Phish finishes up their “Baker’s Dozen” (ha) of performances at MSG this weekend.

11. This week Dave Chappelle began his residency at Radio City. Catch him in one or more performances with special guests including Chance the Rapper, Chris Rock, Trevor Noah, and Ali Wong.

12. If it’s the salty beach air you’re after while also getting some shopping in, head to the Coney Island Art Walls on Saturday for the FAD market, featuring independent artists and designers.
