The rare midtown meet-up that doesn’t start with “Mc” or end with “Pub,” the basement bar at shiny new Latin-fusion restaurant Zengo has its own distinctive look and a menu of Mexican small plates (tacos and tostaditas spruced up with traditional delicacies like lengua, i.e., beef tongue)—and 400 types of tequila. The vibe is old-world salon with dim lighting, massive black leather sofas, and a hulking marble bar. Happy hour is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the week (try the $8 strawberry margarita, which is tarted up with freshly muddled fruit).
