Vintry Wine & Whiskey
57 Stone St., nr. Mill Lane; 212-480-9800
Vintry is just what you’d expect from a fat-cat bar in the deepest financial district—plush leather stools, marble tabletops—but it has a surprisingly democratic heart. Thanks to a state-of-the-art aeration system that preserves opened bottles, 95 of the wines in the 495-strong collection can be bought in two-ounce tastes or five-ounce glasses, with prices starting at $3.50. In addition, more than 200 whiskeys are poured in one- or two-ounce shots (from $4), making the bar a fine place to broaden your booze horizons without sending up any red flags in Washington.
