Legal service with a personal touch.
This has been the guiding principle at Roura & Melamed from the firm’s inception in 1980. Representing people who have suffered catastrophic injuries, the personal injury trial firm prides itself on the personal service provided for their clients. Throughout their years of service to the community, the firm has remained true to its roots—small enough to take a personal interest in each of their clients, yet with a reputation in the courts and the legal community of fighting for and securing the best results possible for their clients. This “caring for the client” approach was the result of the experience partners Walter P. Roura and Martin Melamed had when working at much larger firms, where it was next to impossible to give every case and each client the personal attention that people with serious injuries need and deserve. Not having that ability in a larger firm directly led to the formation of Roura & Melamed as a full service, caring and personally attentive law firm.
Walter P. Roura was born and raised in New York City, and tried his first case only 11 days after being admitted as a lawyer, never stopping since. His experience representing construction companies at a large defense firm made him realize that his talents were better used in representing seriously injured people who required a passionate and seasoned trial lawyer to help them win their cases in court. “The poor, who are the ones most often injured by careless companies, don’t necessarily get the best legal representation, which makes the fight against those companies an unfair one. These injured people desperately need a lawyer who is willing and able to be their voice and champion in the courtroom.”
“We never lose sight of the fact that what some may call ‘a great injury case’ is, in reality, a human tragedy.”
Martin Melamed was also born and raised in New York and began his career as a trial attorney at a large firm, but soon assumed the duties of the managing attorney at Roura & Melamed. He quickly steered the firm towards providing the caring and personal service he found lacking at that larger firm. His guidance ensured that the staff represented the diverse nature of the City, with many speaking both English and Spanish, and he also successfully expanded the firm into the immigration field in order to provide quality representation to New York’s immigration population.
Roura & Melamed represents clients who have suffered all types of serious, catastrophic injuries, including numerous cases of traumatic brain injury, a delicate subject that requires attorneys to have very specific medical knowledge and legal skill in order to successfully present the case in court. Their reputation in these respects has led to numerous other lawyers offering referrals to Roura & Melamed.
In providing personal service, Roura & Melamed stresses the need to earn their clients’ trust. They keep their clients informed of the progress of their cases and involve the clients in assessing the nature and value of their own cases. Roura & Melamed have secured more than $250 million in verdicts and settlements. “We never lose sight of the fact that what some may call ‘a great injury case’ is, in reality, a human tragedy. We know that we cannot cure our clients’ injuries and that no amount of money that we get for them can be substituted for their prior good health. However, what we can offer our clients is our promise to give our best efforts for them.”
