Over its 15-year history, Coffinas & Lusthaus has developed an impressive record of success in all areas of family and matrimonial law at both the trial and appellate levels. “We support our clients through this painful process by producing timely, favorable results,” says partner Meredith Lusthaus. “With us, it’s all about the client.”

Meredith Lusthaus and Maria Coffinas are well-regarded in the legal community, having attained memberships, accolades, and leadership positions at a number of notable organizations. Lusthaus is past-President of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association and has chaired the organization’s matrimonial law committee for the past 10 years. In addition, both attorneys are AV® Preeminent™ rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and have created legal precedent in their field.

Coffinas, in a landmark case, established the legal principle that children should have independent counsel at court proceedings regarding their custody arrangements. Lusthaus established precedent in multi-year, multi-state litigation concerning the division of assets following a foreign judgment of divorce. The firm has also been at the forefront of the application and interpretation of the new temporary maintenance guidelines, representing a client in one of the first published cases applying the new guidelines.

Coffinas & Lusthaus has developed a particular expertise in complex custody cases, successfully representing clients when all kinds of issues arise, such as parental relocation and children with special needs. Furthermore, the firm is highly skilled in post-judgment enforcement proceedings, both in obtaining money judgments on behalf of clients and in taking all the necessary steps to ensure that clients collect on those money judgments. “Enforcement is as important as the judgment itself,” Coffinas notes. “A favorable decision is meaningless if the client is unable to collect.”
