As an authority in the trusts and estates field, Michael N. Connors is known for his comprehensive approach to estate planning, probate and administration matters, elder law, and estate litigation.

Connors is a native New Yorker who served in the United States Army before enrolling in Brooklyn Law School. After attaining his legal degree, Connors went on to form Connors & Sullivan in 1986 with Florence Sullivan, a former candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Since its founding, the firm has grown to a mid-sized law firm comprised of more than 50 staff members, including attorneys and paralegals who have years of experience in their areas of concentration, Connors notes. The firm has office locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, and recently opened a fifth location in Staten Island.

Beyond their central focus on estate planning, the attorneys at Connors & Sullivan are knowledgeable about real estate closings, tax law, and asset protection. In one notable case, the firm used a combination of discounts on the transfer of a $30 million property in an estate so that only one-third of its value was subject to estate taxes.

In addition to estate tax matters, the firm’s attorneys assist clients with health and quality-of-life issues, such as Medicaid planning. Through the firm’s elder law practice, they have worked to preserve the dignity of people facing medical problems and other challenges.

One of my proudest moments was when I helped free two sisters in their 80s from a nursing home that was holding them against their will, Connors says.

Connors is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and continues to devote much of his time to educating the community about estate planning. He offers regular seminars on asset protection and taxation, and has provided commentary for CNN, NY1, and ABC News. He also breaks down the complexities of trusts and estates law through a radio talk show, Ask the Lawyer, which airs on WOR NewsTalk Radio 710 every Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If you’re coming in to do an estate plan, ordinarily you’re not doing it for yourself, you’re doing it for your kids, Connors notes. So it’s very rewarding to meet these people, hear their life stories, and help them protect their assets for their family members.
