Dr. Sandra Kuzmich

As a leading partner in the New York office of Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP, Dr. Sandra Kuzmich is uniquely prepared through her education, professional training, and business experience to provide clients with the legal and technical expertise they need to protect their intellectual property.
Dr. Kuzmich heads the firm’s life sciences practice group, focusing her practice on strategic intellectual property counseling and product life-cycle management in the areas of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and biotechnology. Recognizing that life-cycle management is continuous and dynamic, she is skilled in developing and managing diverse patent portfolios that take into consideration a client’s immediate and long-term business objectives. She specializes in counseling clients on how to obtain intellectual property protection on pharmaceuticals and biological products in the research stage, and how to strengthen that protection throughout development, product launch, and beyond. Her extensive experience in pharmaceutical litigation allows her to offer a distinctive approach to protecting and maximizing the value of intellectual property assets in the life sciences. By advising on patent prosecution strategy with an eye towards litigation, Dr. Kuzmich collaborates with clients to devise strong and diverse intellectual property protection for a life science product.
Dr. Kuzmich received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Douglass College of Rutgers University in 1981, earned her Ph.D. in pharmacology from Yale University in 1989, and was a post-doctoral research associate with the Fox Chase Cancer Center. She spent several years in the private pharmaceutical sector, managing departments in the U.S. in the areas of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and also collaborating with Asian and European counterparts to coordinate worldwide regulatory submissions. She earned her J.D. from Fordham Law School in 2001.
Her educational background and practical experience in the pharmaceutical sector, along with her expertise in patent procurement and defense, give Dr. Kuzmich the ability to appreciate and strategically manage the complex intellectual property issues that are critical to pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients.
Dr. Kuzmich is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has been admitted to practice before the bars of New York, Connecticut, the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Court of International Trade.
She is active in the legal profession with memberships in the Connecticut Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Dr. Kuzmich is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
