Waterfront Celebration

Wonda Joseph & Andrew Quinn
Empire–Fulton Ferry State Park, Bubby’s Brooklyn, Dumbo, Brooklyn
June 4, 2006

We were going to elope,” Wonda says. “Then our parents got wind that something was up and they begged and pleaded, so we stayed in New York.” But even if Wonda and Andrew’s wedding plans changed, their criteria remained the same: a small guest list, an outdoor ceremony, and a laid-back celebration. “I always thought I’d marry at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden,” Wonda says, “until I learned how much it would cost. Yes, I wanted a beautiful wedding, but I also wanted money in the bank when it was done.” She was equally conscientious when it came to her engagement ring, asking only that Andrew choose an ethically mined diamond. “The poor guy didn’t need that pressure,” she says. But at their wedding rehearsal, Andrew granted Wonda’s wish, surprising her with an 1890 Doyle & Doyle ring. “That he appreciated what I wanted,” she says, “I just cried like a baby.”
