Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright John Patrick Shanley will bring his new play, Defiance, to the Manhattan Theatre Club next February, with his Doubt collaborator Doug Hughes set to direct. . . . Six Feet Under’s Michael C. Hall (who plays the neurotic gay son, David) has signed with Showtime for a crime series called Dexter, based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter; Hall will play a serial killer with a day job as a forensics expert for the Miami Police Department. . . . Literary agent Jonathan Lazear is reportedly shopping around a book imprint based on content from the liberal radio network Air America with original work written by its personalities. . . . Actor-director Jon Favreau (Swingers, Elf) has signed a deal with Fox to produce a television comedy based on the adventures of a subway-booth worker in Harlem, with Elf star Faizon Love as the lead. . . . David Bowie, Destiny’s Child, Duran Duran, Gwen Stefani, Nelly, Tim McGraw, and the Arcade Fire have all signed on for the Fashion Rocks benefit to be held at Radio City Music Hall on September 8.
