Scarlett Johansson is negotiating to star in a Weinstein Co. adaptation of Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin’s best-selling book The Nanny Diaries, which will start filming in New York in February. . . . The Strokes have announced a string of shows in late November and early December (with a stop in New York) in support of their forthcoming album, First Impressions of Earth, which is due out in January. . . . American Pie director Paul Weitz is bringing his fourth play, Show People, to Off Broadway in April. . . . Director David Cronenberg is adapting his creepy 1998 film Dead Ringers, which chronicles the tragic events that transpire after twin gynecologists fall for the same woman, into a mini-series for HBO, with Cape Fear’s Wesley Strick attached as a writer. . . . In a life-imitates-Entourage move, the WB has ordered a pilot for a spinoff of the Superman-themed Smallville, to be centered on the underwater adventures of superhero Aquaman.
