SARAH MILLS
431 Broome St., Second fl.
212-941-8552
Haircutters with a celebrity following are about as unusual as model sightings in the meatpacking district. So while the transplanted Brit Sarah Mills has been known to trim the locks of some famous people (Orlando Bloom, for example), she’s refreshingly free of the coy name-dropping other stylists routinely use as a marketing tool—which doesn’t work all that well with guys, anyway. What’s particularly nice about Mills’s workspace is that it’s neither a mahogany-paneled old-guy preserve nor a shiny unisex-but-it’s-really-for-women salon. Her customers come to her friendly Soho loft because it’s a relaxing place to hang out, read some magazines, listen to Keane, and get a haircut tailored to their desired degree of coolness, from shaggy chic to clean and corporate to anything in between. (Cuts start at $90.)
