Long known for training ballet bigwigs such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Steps also boasts a comprehensive program for children, whether they aim to be the next prima at American Ballet Theatre or a cardiac surgeon with great posture. Daily after-school and Saturday classes for 2- to 18-year-olds are set up for every developmental stage, from Little Steps, Creative Movement, and Pre-dance to Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, and a new Isadora Duncan class. Classes are $540 for a 35-week program from September to June. Steps also has an intensive summer program for 6- to 15-year-olds who want a variation on the Camp Hiawatha theme (two-, four-, or eight-week programs; two-week programs are $240-$480).
