Pet Taxi
212-755-1757
Visions of late-afternoon games of fetch sent you running to the pet store. Now your groomer is down in SoHo, your vet is up near Columbia, and your pup's weekend doghouse is in Southampton. Fido will hardly fit in the back of a cab, and you can forget about taking him on the Jitney. What's a pet owner to do? Call Larry Reilly, a registered animal handler who'll pick up your furry friend in his Chevrolet Astrom -- the taxicab-yellow minivan is outfitted with roomy cages and other pet necessities -- and take him anywhere he needs to go. "Larry brings my three shih tzus to the groomer every other week," says Broadway prima diva Betty Lynn Buckley. "He's very sweet to 'the girls,' as he calls them. They're family to me, and it's important to find someone who handles them with loving care: I completely trust him." Along with making trips around town and to the airports, Reilly often drives to the Hamptons and has gone as far as Ohio. Wayne Gretzky and Mira Sorvino are among the other celebrities who have placed their pooches in Reilly's care. Pet Taxi is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends by appointment. A one-way ride in Manhattan costs $25. To the East End, $35 per hour.
