Young parents scan the shelves of Fair Trade and organic clothing while Sting plays softly in the background at this roomy, well-lit store. But wait: There’s no hippy-dippy tie-dye in sight, no earthy plain brown or olive drab. Dutch owner Carin van der Donk scours the globe to find pieces truly unique to New York, and she’s assembled a mix of cute accessories, adorable vintage clothes—a fresh shipment of La Petite Ida just came in from Paris—and surprisingly chic ethnic designs, like made-to-order Moroccan slippers and a thick cotton skirt with sophisticated embroidery made by members of a Vietnamese tribe ($187). It’s less East Village, more European boutique.
