Anyone who’s had a great sample-sale find butchered knows what a treasure a talented tailor can be. Surprisingly, some of Soho’s chic-est boutiques—including Bagutta Life, Yohji Yamamoto, and APC—trust their alterations not to some fancy Brit but to a seemingly hole-in-the-wall establishment, G+G Cleaners. Angela Gong apprenticed with a Hong Kong specialty tailor and is legendary among fashion editors and Soho boutique owners for fast and reliable alterations. It only sweetens the deal that her prices are no more than your average neighborhood shop’s: $12 for a simple pants hem, and up to $200 for, say, completely overhauling an evening gown.
