Most Overrated Store

142 Wooster St.

The catalogue and Website are great resources for modern-furniture-obsessives who don't live anywhere near a Knoll store. But there are now five DWR showrooms here, which is akin to opening a bunch of Au Bon Pains in Paris. Most of the furniture DWR trumpets—Knoll, Kartell, Philippe Starck—has been available for years at places like the Museum of Modern Art Design Store, and DWR doesn't even offer a break on price. And these showrooms aren't actually stores. Everything—down to a simple table lamp—has to be ordered, which means you have to wait at least three days (if it's in stock) to revolutionize your home.
