Anthony Hopkins gets down with the gorillas in Instinct, an unintentionally risible drama about a famous primatologist who hid out for four years in Rwandan jungles with the Silverbacks and their brood and then went a bit bonkers. Interned in a Florida prison for the criminally insane, Hopkins's Ethan Powell resembles a cross between Hannibal Lecter and Papa Hemingway. He's malevolently bushy. His psychiatrist, Theo Caulder, is played by Cuba Gooding Jr. In the end, Powell thanks his doctor for sharing the journey, but audiences who sit through this zoologically daft back-to-nature clinker may feel far less charitable.
