Vroom! This summer there seem to be more motorcycles than ever zipping by -- whether you're on the FDR or the L.I.E. Leading some motorists to wonder: Who are all these bikers, anyway? And if they were in a West Side Story– style battle for control of the South Fork, which "gang" might win?

Classic Hells Angel

Ancient, lovingly maintained Harleys ("they don't make 'em like that anymore").
Identifying plumage
The same gray hair and paunches seen on many of our senators.

Mostly just kickin' back outside the East 3rd Street clubhouse.

Intricate color-block leather jacket perfectly matching the bike.

Traveling in packs of 100-plus down 125th Street on a Sunday afternoon.

J.Lo wannabe -- and if it's serious, she'll get her nails done to match the jacket.

Master of the Universe Biker
Type of ride
2002 Indian Chief -- retailing for upwards of $20,000.
Identifying plumage
Gucci shades, Hugo Boss jacket, Cole Haan boots.
Where found
Tearing into a 32-ounce steak at the Palm after a leisurely sunset ride on Long Island.
Likely companion
Second wife.
Role model
Malcolm Forbes (with Elizabeth Taylor).

Off-Duty Officers
Type of ride
BMW with patriotic bumper sticker.
Identifying plumage
Members Only and a mustache.
Where found
Meeting at the diner before the annual Toys for Tots ride.
