Four years after the bitter 2001 mayoral race split Dems, Fernando Ferrer is ready to publicly forgive Mark Green for his supporters’ distribution of a Post cartoon depicting Ferrer kissing Al Sharpton’s buttocks. The flap led Ferrer backers to withhold support from Green in the general election, which possibly gave it to Mike Bloomberg. The two men privately made peace last year, but Green thought Ferrer’s public statements fell short of full absolution. And so shortly before Green endorsed Ferrer on September 21, he met privately with top Freddy adviser Roberto Ramirez. They agreed that Ferrer would exonerate Green if reporters asked about the flyer. But nobody asked. So we did. Ramirez’s statement: “Ferrer does not hold Green personally responsible for the unfortunate flyer episode. He believes that Mark was unaware of the incident, and knows that Mark wouldn’t have tolerated it if he had been aware of it.” A rep for Green, who’s running for state attorney general next year, says, “Mark is pleased that this has finally reached a good conclusion.”
