CBS is currently casting a reality-show pilot at York Prep, an Upper West Side private school whose notable alums include Liv Tyler and Kelly Klein. The show will be a “docu-soap” in the tradition of MTV’s Laguna Beach and is about “the trials and tribulations of a senior class at a New York City prep school,” according to a CBS insider. At least part of the production team has Manhattan private-school roots—Justin Hochberg, one of the untitled project’s producers, graduated from New York’s Trinity School (which is upmarket from York). So why isn’t the show set there? According to the prep-school rumor mill, the producers approached and were turned down by a number of prestigious city schools before York finally took the bait. Perhaps York will change its slogan, “An intimate place to learn, in the heart of a great city,” after the show airs nationwide. Both Trinity and York Prep refused to comment.
