Equestrian events are a sort of games within the Games. Built on former landfill, Staten Island's equestrian center would have stables, training areas, and nearby hotels. (No need for horses to take the subway.)

A dilapidated police rifle range would get a $58 million face-lift for Olympic shooting. Overlooking Long Island Sound, the Pelham Bay Shooting Center would go back to the NYPD after the games.

Queens has great Indian food, sure, but can you whitewater-canoe? The run-down Fountain of the Planets, built for the 1964 World's Fair, could become a national center for training and racing.
