Beauty and the East

Takashimaya’s new spa brings solace to shoppers.

ShareThis

Recovering from a hard day's shopping at Takashimaya's spa.

Whether it’s breath-taking flower arrangements or the best silk pajamas, Takashimaya has exquisite taste. That sophisticated sensibility extends to the three-room spa the store has just added on its sixth floor. The products are from the German line Babor, but the marble sink adorned with twig sculptures and treatments like the Scentao head-to-toe pressure-point massage are pure Japan. (693 Fifth Avenue, near 54th Street; 212-350-0100.)

Aks Fifth Avenue
Despite having high-profile clients like J.Lo, Oribe was forced to shutter his salon at Elizabeth Arden on Fifth Avenue last year. Come September, Salon AKS is moving in. The old red rococo décor will be replaced by a cream-and-dark-wood motif, and an outdoor terrace will host manicures, pedicures, and lunch. The current AKS, at 694 Madison Avenue, near 62nd Street, will become an express salon.

Beauty Spots

Nonstick Fans
Glosses are great if you want to achieve this season’s slick pout, but one errant breeze and your hair sticks to your face like it’s flypaper. Chanel’s new Aqualumiere line ($23 each) and Clinique Bare Brilliance ($13.50) give shine without the mess. Aqualumiere comes in fifteen shades—and, as a summer plus, it’s SPF 15. Both available at Bloomingdale’s.

Message In A Bottle
Chocolates and flowers are such clichéd Mother’s Day gifts, aren’t they? Boucheron’s newest fragrance, on the other hand, is as fresh as its dominant note of jasmine, with a touch of amber for richness and a hint of vanilla. Now in stores, the scent is called Trouble and it comes, appropriately, in a red bottle. It’s still sweet, but the name is sure to remind her of you. ($165 for .05-ounce parfum; $85 for 3.3-ounce eau de parfum at Saks and Bloomingdale’s.)

It’s time to give that little black makeup bag a rest—this spring’s carriers are cheery and colorful.

Prada’s royal-blue quilted silk travel bag, $154 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Galante’s striped silk-blend pouch, $24 at Zitomer.

Trish McEvoy’s sky-blue leather cosmetics case, $85 at Henri Bendel.

Molton Brown’s cream-canvas kit with chocolate-leather trim (includes travel-size products), $40 at Barneys.

Stephanie Johnson’s pink cotton-blend bag with suede handle, $50 at Zitomer.
