My sister has
Seasonal Affective Disorder, that miserable depression
which sets in with the freezing temperatures of winter.
But when I introduced her to Carole Shiber's handpainted
table linens, her mood actually lifted. These "tablescapes,"
as the designer calls them, bring a kitchen or dining
room from a base of operations to a virtual garden of
blooms. A personal favorite are the moldable versions
that envelop a bowl, with layers and layers of floral
beauty. The acrylic polymer fabric paint is permanently
heat set, making the placemats easily cleanable and safe
for all types of tabletops. $25 to $110, depending on
design.
