Alpaca fur is
a misunderstood fiber. I know, you're thinking "cute,
llama-like creature but keep its ugly, scratchy hairs
away from me." Well, you couldn't be more wrong,
but you're not alone. Textile designer Rosemary Hallgarten
had her own preconceived notions until a visit to Peru
proved otherwise. So she hired a collective of Peruvian
weavers to make these ultra-soft throws, with a little
silk added and color coordinated pom-poms, and imported
them stateside, now exclusively at ABC Carpet and Home.
The jewel-tone colors add to the richness of this 6' x
4' throw, but if you're a tactile person like me, you'll
notice that, unlike cashmere, these mini blankets have
strength to them and an un-cashmere-like price of $235.
$235 at ABC Carpet and Home, 888 Broadway, at 19th St., 212-473-3000.
