A recent afternoon spent at various museums around town turned up an
unexpectedly hilarious find: The Life And Death of “Bling Bling” by
Matthew Vescovo, Master of the Obvious. This book, which is based on an
animated spot you may have seen on MTV, has a subtitle that summarizes
it better than I ever could: “A story of innovation, proliferation,
regurgitation, commercialization and bastardization.” Trust me, it’s a
laugh-out-loud funny story about how the term came to be, got abused
and now must die. $19.95 at artbook.com or at the Cooper-Hewitt
bookstore, where I bought two.
