I don't know how he does it, but Jonathan Adler consistently comes up with new designs that scream "Jonathan" while at the same time are a departure from other things he's done. My new favorite is a series of small boxes in his Utopia collection—the decoration isn't just on the top or side, but on the bottom, too. They are very cool, kind of retro while remaining modern, and have some eyebrow-raising themes (“condom caddy”, “mary jane jar”) and some more tame ones, too (“key keeper”, shown here).
$40-$90 each at Jonathan Adler, 47 Greene St., near Broome St., 212-941-8950 and 1097 Madison Ave., near 86th St., 212-772-2410; jonathanadler.com.
