All That Glitters

Golden tickets: Head-to-toe gold is strictly for unlucky Bond girls, but polished accents are this fall's fashion currency -- and won't use up your Sacagawea dollars.

Gold fever is no longer strictly for rap stars and aging divas -- pricey, gilded leather trenches; sequined gowns; and plenty of belts, hoops, and bangles stole the show at the fall collections. If your gold card is mined out, try these very unpreciously priced stand-ins.

Gold clothes are most sophisticated in trim, classic shapes. Pair EXPRESS's matte leather jeans with black, white, or even khaki ($198 at EXPRESS stores). Or, if you can wait, pick up Club Monaco's fab lurex turtleneck, which will land in stores in November ($99 at Club Monaco stores). At night, dress up dark-denim with Nine West's sequined sandals ($70 at Nine West stores) or franchi's mirrored clutch ($85 at Verve).

Give your chunky silver-toned jewelry a rest this season -- gold trinkets are a must, and the big stores are packed with winners. Try DKNY's mesh bracelet ($38 at Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor) or Givenchy's necklace ($25 at Macy's) with a black blouse. Cinch Henri Bendel's chain-link belt over a skinny sweater ($48 at Henri Bendel). Not convinced? Slip on Nine West's sunny shades -- a gilded world can look very, very chic ($28 at Lord & Taylor and Macy's).

Verve, 353 Bleecker St. (212-691-6516).
