Holiday Cocktails

What better way to warm up the Christmas season -- or take the edge off the shopping scene -- than with a spicy holiday drink?

1. Hot buttered rum

Loaded with butterfat, this isn't a drink for calorie counters. But hell, it's the holidays: Try Gramercy Tavern's fruity spin, full of banana-infused rum and nutmeg.
(42 East 20th Street; 212-477-0777.)

2. Glögg

Take mulled wine to the next (Swedish) level: Raisins, almonds, and cardamom give the wine-port-brandy mixture a punch. If you're making it at home, invite your guests into the kitchen to watch you set it aflame. If you'd rather go out, stop by Ulrika's.
(115 East 60th Street; 212-355-7069.)

3. Eggnog

Though it's served cold, eggnog will still warm your spirits. Tavern on the Green's nog is rich and creamy and sure to leave a mustache. Don't think about the raw eggs -- or just tell yourself that the brandy will take care of that.
(Central Park West near 66th Street; 212-873-3200.)

4. Spiked cocoa

You needn't decide between dessert or an after-dinner drink at Thom, where Godiva liqueur and Ketel One vodka meld together for an adults-only treat.
(60 Thompson Street; 212-219-2000.)

5. Hot spiced cider

With or without alcohol, cider just tastes like winter. At the Broome Street Bar, add a shot of brandy or rum for pizzazz. Tired of apples? AKA Cafe offers a pear version with rum.
(363 West Broadway, 212-925-2086; 49 Clinton Street, 212-979-6096.)
