In November, Sasha Waltz, the quirky, ironic German choreographer, will make her New York debut at BAM, performing the U.S. premiere of Körper, an exploration of the body that won raves in Europe. She’s already being pitched as the next Pina Bausch, with perhaps a slightly lighter touch. “Waltz has a real sense of humor,” says Robert Cole, director of UC Berkeley’s Cal Performances. “Which is essential if you’re coming from the German school of dance theater.”
