After watching the unfolding tragedy in Kosovo on CNN, you may be thinking of sending a check to an international aid organization. But where will your money do the most good? We consulted Human Rights Watch, which has been a presence in that unhappy region for almost a decade. Rachael Reilly, the organization’s refugee-policy director, made it plain that she thinks any humanitarian organization working in the Balkans deserves our help, but when asked to pick two organizations whose work “on the ground” she particularly admires, she named the International Rescue Committee (877-refugee), which has been building shelters for up to 1,500 refugees in Albania, and Doctors Without Borders (888-392-0392), which has a medical team in place to treat those injured during their flight from Kosovo.
