Roxy claims to have "the only TRULY gay Saturday night of dancing" and while other clubs might take issue with that boast, it's hard to deny the longevity of this mega-popular queer dance party run by legendary promoter John Blair. It's also easy to see why such a scene thrives here: The warehouse is designed for maximum Chelsea boy pick-up potential. The vast main space (which includes a sizable concert stage) features a sunken dance area, allowing those on the perimeter to look down on the disco-ball-lit proceedings like Romans surveying gladiators. There are also spots where you can get away from the techno throb long enough to scribble down a phone number like the Crystal Room above the front bar or the intimate Bordello Room. As for what goes on at Roxy the other six nights of the week, check the website or call to make sure the event is for you. Depending on the evening, you could stumble across anything from a private corporate function to a fun roller-skating party to a den of post-prom Jerseyite iniquity.
ExtraWednesday is roller-skating night; Friday is a mixed dance party; Saturday is gay night.
