Profile
If you’re looking for a well-built, low-flash handbag that’s still big on style—no blazing logos or signatures but loaded with confident class— Kazuyo Nakano’s offerings will fit the bill. This Soho store is packed with pocketbook options, from streamlined leather shoulder bags and canvas totes to tightly sewn clutches in bright colors and large hobos with perforated details. Known for using high-quality leathers in traditional neutrals and unusual hues like mustard, burgundy, and salmon pink, Kyoto-based designer Nakano also produces seasonal items such as kimono-inspired fabric clutches or flower-adorned summer totes. Most devotees, however, started out with something from the signature Mondano collection of structured, modular, coated-leather bags with big pockets. As befits a store that lies between mainstream Soho and more fashion-forward Nolita, Kazuyo Nakano designs are both functional and unique—perfect for women who want to work a little edge into their style, but still need to cart around a lot of stuff.
